Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. For a child who had Irish origins, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents as well as a family full of talented people, such qualities were naturally a part of her. Maureen made her entrance into the sanctity of family on the 17th of August, 1920, at Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland. He also owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club and a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons was the second FitzSimons children. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen was a natural athlete and was a fan of tough sporting games. Her natural ability to perform perfectly complemented her interest in athletics. She took home almost every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance the country could offer. At the age of 14 she became a member of the Abbey Theater to follow her ambitions in classical theater and operatic vocals.
